I don’t know about you, but the past couple of years have felt surreal. There was a small glimmer of hope a few weeks ago when we could see an end to one world crisis only to be faced with a new world crisis shortly after.

These crises and access to the news on demand can leave us feeling emotionally drained, fearful, anxious, overwhelmed, confused and many more emotions.

At a personal level, in our homes and places of work, feeling these emotions can cause us to act in ways that we wouldn’t normally and upset those closest to us.

As such, if you feel the tension rising in your body, this is usually a good sign you are acting from fear or stress. Even hallucinating this person in front of you is out to hurt you on purpose. So before reacting, turn that thought around. What if this person, like me, is just trying their best?

It can be easier said than done to show compassion when faced with a challenging situation. Assuming the best intentions from other people is hard when we feel wronged.

If you can pause and think;

  • Is this kind?
  • Is this the type of person I want to be?
  • Is it more important to me to be right than happy?

Coaching tip; don’t have that argument go to bed angry. Things can look better after a good night’s sleep.

Using some of these tips and making a slight 5% shift in noticing and catching yourself before reacting can save you from upsetting those closest to you and harming your relationships.

What I want to do with my coaching is to make a difference to as many people as possible. If you take what you have learned today and use it in your own life or share it with your family and friends, then you and I will have made a difference to more than just the people reading this insight today.
